How It Works

Five steps from deposit to freezer

02Pay Your Deposit OnlineHalf Steer — $200 deposit ($1,700 total ranch price). Whole Steer — $400 deposit ($3,200 total ranch price).
03We Coordinate the ProcessorSussex Ranch works with you to identify a mutually agreeable processor and processing time.
04Remaining Balance DueWhen the steer is delivered to the processor, the remaining ranch balance becomes due: $1,500 for a Half Steer or $2,800 for a Whole Steer.
05Work With the ProcessorYou work directly with the processor regarding cutting instructions, processing, pickup and processor payment.

Processing & Pickup

Half and whole beef orders are delivered to a mutually agreeable processor. Once the steer is delivered to the processor, the customer works directly with the processor regarding cutting instructions, processing and pickup.

Processor location may vary based on availability and customer location.

Deposits & Payment

Half Steer: $200 deposit
Whole Steer: $400 deposit

Your online deposit begins and reserves your Half Steer or Whole Steer order. It is not payment in full.

Pay Sussex Ranch

Your online deposit, then the remaining beef balance when the steer is delivered to the processor.

Pay the Processor

Processing charges are paid directly to the processor, separate from Sussex Ranch.

The remaining Sussex Ranch balance — $1,500 for a Half Steer or $2,800 for a Whole Steer — is due when the steer is delivered to the processor.

Sussex Ranch will provide the remaining beef balance and payment instructions when the steer is delivered to the processor.

The processor's charges are separate from what you pay Sussex Ranch. You work directly with the processor regarding cutting instructions, processing, pickup and processor payment.

Deposits are generally applied toward your beef purchase. If a mutually agreeable processing time and processor cannot be arranged, Sussex Ranch may refund the deposit on a case-by-case basis.

Half Steer and Whole Steer deposits must be purchased separately from individual cuts and beef boxes.

Current Pricing

Half Steer — $1,700 Sussex Ranch price. A $200 deposit reserves your half steer; the remaining $1,500 ranch balance is due when the steer is delivered to the processor.
Whole Steer — $3,200 Sussex Ranch price. A $400 deposit reserves your whole steer; the remaining $2,800 ranch balance is due when the steer is delivered to the processor.
Processing costs are separate and paid directly to the processor.
Half and Whole Steer orders are not shipped by UPS. Finished beef is picked up through the processor.
Quarter beef is not currently offered.

Packaging Details

A whole beef yielding approximately 500 pounds requires an estimated 12–15 cubic feet of freezer space. A half beef requires approximately half that amount. A typical full-size upright freezer should be adequate for a whole beef.
Actual packaged weight and required freezer space may vary.
All cuts are individually vacuum sealed and labeled by the mutually agreeable processor.
Packed frozen into boxes with an inventory sheet of every cut.

Turnaround Times

The typical waiting period is 2–3 months.
Beef is dry-aged for a minimum of 14 days.
Longer aging may be available by request.
Processing charges are paid directly to the processor. Processor location may vary based on availability and customer location.
